An International working group of 29 scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals from 10 countries named The BioInitiative Working Group reviewed more than 4,000 research studies on the heath effects of EMF. These studies were conducted at prestigious institutions world-wide.

The first BioInitiative Report was released in 2007. An updated report based on another 5 years of data was released in 2012. Both the 2007 and 2012 reports document serious scientific concerns about current regulations controlling how much Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) is allowable from:
- Powerlines
- Building Wiring Systems
- Appliances
- Automobiles
- Cell Phones
- Baby Monitors
- Wireless Internet
- Entertainment Systems
- Smart Meters for Gas, Water and Electricity
- Cell Phone Antennas/Towers
- Computers/Tablets
All of the above listed sources and others like them emit EMR that has also been called Electrosmog. If electrosmog was colored blue, the fog would now be so thick in most places that visibility would be severely limited. The strength of power of EMR in our environment is thousands of times stronger than it was just 20 years ago.
Both reports conclude that the existing EMR standards for public safety are inadequate to protect public health. The intervening 5 years since the 2007 report have only seen the publication of many more study show significant and detrimental physiological effects for all types of man-made EMR. However, the effect of digital wiles radiation is far worse than older so-called analog types of RF and power system radiations.

The update to the report published in 2014 stated:
Dr. Henry Lai reviewed studies published between 2007 and 2014. He found evidence of genetic damage in 65% of relevant studies on RF radiation and 83% on fields from electrical (power) sources.
The update also found that 88% of relevant studies showed evidence that exposure to electromagnetic fields increased levels of free radicals.
New studies also show increased risks of malignant brain tumors from mobile phone use, the Group said. "Epidemiological evidence show that radio frequency should be classified as a known human carcinogen. The existing FCC/IRE and ICNIRP public safety limits are not adequate to protect public health."
